Xuan Huong Lake Dalat

Ho Xuan Huong Dalat is located in the center of the city with the perimeter around the lake about 5000m and the water surface is 43 Hectares. Xuan Huong Lake is an artificial lake built in 1919 by the Governor General of Indochina Doumer approved the project. At this time, the French built two dams, a dike near Thuy Ta restaurant today and a large dam located in front of Da Lat market.

 

 In 1932, a major storm broke the two dams. In 1934, the French built a larger and stronger dam at the site of Ong Dao bridge like today. This time the French named the lake Grand Lac. In 1953, Nguyen Vy, the mayor of Dalat at that time, proposed to rename it Xuan Huong Lake, named as a talented female poet of the 16th-century name.

In the past, before French came, this is a rice growing area of the Lach people, then there is only a romantic stream called Cam Le and the village of ethnic minority Lach. Later, when the dam was built, the French moved the whole Lach people here to the foot of Mt. Langbiang and established Lat Village today.

 

Since had Xuan Huong Lake, Da Lat is becoming more beautiful and romantic. Nearly a century, Xuan Huong Lake is always associated with local life.
